I know in the past Weld Racing had the Super Singles Wheels. Is there going to be another set of wheels made for trucks?

Hey Findley, I contacted them this past August through email. I asked about them wider wheels which came in Super Singles too. This is what they said
"...There is talk of a new product line primarily designed for most truck applications, but we do not expect to see prototype or production models until the end of October, at the earliest. The wider sizing is planned in these applications."
So this month I wanted to know how productions going here is what they said
"The truck wheels are still in development, but Weld Racing is still working on it."
I am sooo waiting for them to start advertising, guess we are in the same boat!. Seems these new wheels that other brands are selling is too "decorative" in design.

Weld Racing is in the process of researching, designing, and prototyping a truck wheel line. Like you, we have quite a few inquiries as to the truck product, and we are listening to what our customers are wanting.
With that being said, could you please post your fitment needs?
Diameter
Width
Backspace
Bolt Pattern
Desired load rating
Cosmetic style either new, or reference an old Weld style you'd be interested in

Sup SRIDER,
I think the Stonecrusher & Cheyenne designs are awesome and I believe they are sought after on Craigslist. Especially in Hawaii, Cali, and Arizona. Can't go wrong with 6x5.5 lug pattern (Chevy, Toy, Nissan) and Welds were known for going up to 14" wide. The designs that came out during the same time as the ones noted were hot! Not too decorative (like these newer brands). Not sure about diameter though, newer trucks have bigger calipers and require 16" (my FJ Cruiser) or larger but 15" are still popular. I was about to buy a set of used 16.5" Super Singles, but the tire selection for them sucked...keep that in mind.
Sorry if this reply is lengthy, I just can't wait to see the truck series.
Want Welds!

Scott, Weld used to offer the Super Single II, Roadhawk, Typhoon, and Scorpio wheels. I owned a set of SSII 16.5x14 on 8x6.5 bolt pattern. These wheels styles were AWESOME, and I would immediately buy and/or test a set for Weld any day. I now own a 97 F350 with 10" of lift on 39.5 Swampers that gets used regularly, and I owned a 96 F350 crew cab previously with the 16.5x14's and 39" Mickey T's and I LOVED the SS's. I had been hoping Weld would come back!!!!
There are a couple websites about a year ago that said they carried Weld's, and when I called each, they told me they needed to take that off, due to the volume of calls they got trying to get wheels. I tried contacting American Racing to get inventory buyback, blems, anything and could not. I would have to think you have demand out there for the wheels that made Weld successful in the first place.
I think 16", 16.5" (for some reason this diameter has little aftermarket support), 17", 18", 20" would work. I would offer diameters 8" to 14" wide, with backspacing in the 4.5"-5" range for wheels 8"-10" wide, and 3.5" (maybe 4") for wider wheels. Custom offsets and/or widths up to 18" would be helpful as well, as you could price these accordingly due to incremental wheel price being small compared to the overall spend on people wanting/needing those parameters.
I would offer all bolt patterns (5x4.5 for Jeeps/Rangers, 8x6.5 for 1 tons and 8x170mm SUper Duty, 5x5.5 for some half tons, and the 6 lug patterns for other half tons). Don't offer the goofy 7 lug pattern Ford uses as a cost savings measure. Make the load ranges comparable to stock ratings and you would be fine. Most people aren't going to exceed the factory payload. Anything with a 3000 lb/wheel rating would probably suffice, and I think mine were rated at 3200/wheel (although I sold that truck 8 years ago, but I am pretty sure it was 3200).
I think one of the strong points with the older series I mentioned is many people want the classic styles for newer trucks in typical Weld fashion, but the old school look you can not find anymore in most applications. I currently run a set of 16.5x12 Bart Super Truckers because I could not, in 3 months time, find 4 new/used Weld SS II wheels!!
Remember for the 16.5 wheels, there is a LARGE crowd that runs the 39/44/46/47/49 tires with those rim sizes purposely, and I don't think that segment should be ignored just because the mainstream wheel is now a 17/18/20.
Please feel free to contact me anytime at brycethomas@hotmail.com or 904-359-3546. And keep us posted on what you guys will be eventually releasing, I would love to get my hands on one of the first sets.

Bryce,
That's some great input. You have reiterated what we continue to hear from "people in the know" about Weld and the lifted truck market. I will be in contact with you when we get the program lined out. It will certainly be a ramp up as far as offerings go but hopefully we will get back to the core of what made Weld a great name in the truck market.
Again, we appreciate your input! And will undoubtedly reference your suggestions when the time comes!
Thanks,
Scott Rider

This is awesome! I called back home (Hawaii) and told my friends the news! They can't wait to see Weld in production again! Right now a lot of the guys are runnin Real Racing wheels on their trucks (not DOT approved). They look just like the old SR-28 you guys used to carry. I hear people paying top dollar for the original SR-28 18" wide. It's Hawaiian style to run 18" wide and I hear CA and AZ has picked up the fad as well. For the guys who have tall trucks, going wide helps with the height to width issue, trucks float well in sand without airing down...did I mention the "bull dog" stance?!

islandpride,
Thanks for the info. We'll keep the 18" in mind. We hadn't considered anything more than 15" wide. I was involved with the old SR28 wheels. Actually ran some SR28 beadlocs on my drag car before anyone else had a 15" beadloc.
Do these 18" wide SR28's see street use?
Thanks,
Scott Rider
Scott--
Is Weld getting ready to do a discount promotion on beadloc conversions? Also, will we be able to get a black anodized ring this time? Thanks!
im looking for a set for a 2005 F350 srw 8 on 170mm hub concentric 8 hole

Hey Scott,
Yes they get a lot of street use! Because EVERYTHING in Hawaii is expensive and off road trails are being closed, 4x4's in Hawaii have dual purpose, pavement pounder/beach sand runners. The SR28 are the choice for going W-I-D-E. But because no one wants to sell there sets, others found that Real Racing makes a similar design "Pro6". They look identical but many say the craftsmanship isn't the same. People like the SR28's or any wide design because they give that "bulldog" stance, they make lifted trucks more stable, and they float better on sand without having to air down. It reflects on the ol'school sand drag dune buggy days. If you google "DH cruise" for pics and youtube vids, you can see the demand of SR28's and Weld wheels in general.
SR28's are legends man! :)

Scott,
Dually wheels. 16", 17". 8x6.5 for us GM/Dodge guys and some 8x200mm for the Fords.
No one is really making any decent looking dually wheels in stock replacement diameters or widths (6" or 7")
I search Craigslist & EBAY all the time trying to find someone selling a used set of Weld dually wheels but apparently no one wants to part with them 'cause they're so sweet :D
The Andro 8 was my fav but the Velociti, Stonecrusher & Sidewinder were also killer.

Oh yeah the dually wheels! Can't forget them! Weld's had some sick designs. The ones on the market now are kinda tacky.
Scott here's a quote you can use for Weld Wheels....
"WELD WHEELS, IMITATED BUT NEVER DUPLICATED" :D

Dually wheels please. I run 6x16s spoked Alcoas with 285s and 2" spacer. I'm looking for 7" width so I can run 315s. 16" diameter is good, but 17" and 18" too. 8x6.5", 8x170mm, 8x200mm should cover all major brands for bolt patterns. Aluminum or steel but load rated for a 1 ton truck. Swept spokes or swept spider legs. Chrome, polished AL, and black.

I currently have an 18x9 rim with 5" of backspacing on my truck with 325/65 tires and they stick out about and inch or two which is just to my liking, I would be in terested in going wider later on with some fender flares but like to keep the majority of the wheel/tire under the truck
Looking forward to seeing weld back in the game :D

There's a growing demand for lightweight racing wheels for the diesel truck market. Sure would be nice if a company would fill that void. **hint, hint** :D
.
I'd like so see the Method 8's or similar style in black, 20x12, 8x170mm with 4" of backspacing

I think the market has been flooded by the 20"+ wheels that are cheap, too light, non durable,... etc. I think a durable polished (not chrome) wheel that is strong and light would be marketable. The new body style GM trucks require a large backspacing to fit wheels the are wider than stock in the wheelwells. I always liked the looks of the Typhoons. How about a set of Weld Typhoons with the same specs as an H2 wheel?

I would love to see some 16.5x14 20x12, 20x14, 22x12 and 22x14. Right now if you go on craigslist in my area the 20x12 sell for more than retail. And a lot of people love 22x14

Well looks like 12 to 14 widths are popular. If you search craigslist Hawaii you will see what people will pay for Welds in these widths and plenty for sale. A lot in these widths were sold in Hawaii from 15-20" diameter for it works well on the soft sandy beaches. If any of you take a vacation in paradise, might want to take a look in buying a set. Just a insider tip for those who can't wait for the truck line to come out.

I've seen people post similar messages, so I don't know how significant this will be, but I had a set of SSII's (16x10) on my '97 Powerstroke. I loved the wheels and didn't mind paying a higher price for them back when I was in high school. I really liked the fact that they were very similar in appearance to the Ford premium factory wheels that came on the truck. But I've always loved the forged construction, thick rounded edges, and brilliant shine. I have enough money now to buy any wheel for that old truck I feel sentimental about, but can't find or buy at least two SSII's as replacement for two that were reccently damaged in an accident. I'm going to buy a cheap set of alum wheels for a quick fix while I keep searching for SSII's - of which I'd pay more than retail for a used set. I'd be delighted when/if you start producing these wheels again, and likely a lot of others would too.

Im glad to see weld back in the game! Hopefully you guess will bring back some of the older styles like everyone in this thread is talking about SR-28, scorpio, typhoon, stone crusher, mountain crusher. I myself am the owner of a set of 15x18 SR-28, I have them on my 86 chevy k5 blazer and they look great. Im down in Tucson, AZ and there is a ton of people who run 15x14, 15x16, 15x18, 15x19, and 16.5x14. They sell for a pretty penny and there isnt enough to go around. Wish I could post some pics of my blazer and other friends blazers on wide rims.

Aw'right another customer looking for some W-I-D-E profile! I hear AZ is getting into the 18 wide rims. They work really well for crawling the soft sand without needing to airdown. If you ever take a vacation to Hawaii you might want to shop the craigslist and bring back a set. TONS of wide welds and they are better souvenir than a stupid shirt! :D
